The Ark on Ararat
Vast over Turkey and Iran stands Ararat —
Where once there sailed that famous Ark of History,
Freighted with life and human inspiration’s hopes;
The fossilised remains of which are said to be
Still somewhere high on this tall mountain’s massive flanks —
Regarding Caspian’s broad depths, (beyond the near
Bounds of Armenia), that mark the present shores
Of rising Muslim militancy that may soon
Pour turbulent dark floods of murderous unrest
Across the Middle East and Christian Europe’s core.
Who knows when we shall need another Ark to save
Us from a cataclysmic inundation, much more
Destructively widespread than that which bore, to this famed spot,
Those whom God, in the kindness of His heart, had not forgot?.
